a process called electrolysis

Haru Oni will produce green hydrogen through a process called electrolysis, using sustainable and green renewable energy derived from wind power. The facility will also capture CO2 from the atmosphere and combine CO2 and hydrogen to produce e-fuels including carbon-neutral methanol (eMethanol), carbon-neutral gasoline (eGasoline) and carbon-neutral liquefied gas (eLG) using the process of synthesis. , These e-fuels provide an important opportunity for existing infrastructure to become carbon neutral by sustainably reusing and recycling CO2.

“Porsche is committed to a double-e path: e-mobility and e-fuels as a complementary technology. The use of e-fuels reduces CO2 emissions. Looking at the entire transport sector, the industrial production of synthetic fuels must be taken forward worldwide. With the eFuels pilot plant, Porsche is playing a leading role in this development,” said Barbara Frenkel, Member of the Executive Board for Purchasing at Porsche AG.

“The potential for e-fuels is enormous. There are currently more than 1.3 billion vehicles with combustion engines worldwide. Many of these will remain on the roads for decades to come, and e-fuels can provide owners of existing cars with a nearly carbon-neutral option. As a manufacturer of high-performance, efficient engines, Porsche has extensive knowledge in the field of fuels,” said Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Development and Research at Porsche AG.

In the pilot phase of the project, Porsche plans to produce around 130,000 liters (34,342 gallons) of e-fuel per year. After that, a first round of scaling up will take the project to an estimated 55 million liters (14.53 million gallons) per year. After about two years, capacity is expected to increase tenfold to 550 million liters (145.3 million gallons) per year.
