The Jammu and Kashmir government is in the process of refurbishing a government-owned school in Rajouri, which plans to equip it with “modern amenities”.

According to ANI, the Government Boys High School, located in the heart of Rajouri, Gujjar Mandi, was established in the 1960s. However, the school is dilapidated as many classes are held in the open.

The government is constructing a two-story building to beautify this school, and it has been announced that it will be handed over to the school authorities soon. The project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 6.66 crore, ANI reported. The school also has a playground.

Public Works Department (PWD) Chief Engineer Zoab Ahmed Shwal said the new building is being constructed on the initiative of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha. “It is a very famous school and many IAS and IPS officers have died here. Under the LG programme, we have got Rs 6.6 crore for the construction of this building and the work is progressing at a good pace,” he told ANI.

The school has more than 800 students studying from all corners of Rajouri city. Speaking to ANI, a student said, “Many classes are held in the open. We request the district authorities to hand over the school as soon as possible.” “This is a problem for us as classes of all sections will be held together. If the building is completed, we will have proper classes,” added another student.

School teacher Parvinder Gupta said it is the responsibility of the school authorities to provide the necessary materials to the students. “I also lost my mind here. Children from faraway places come here to study, so it is our duty to provide them with modern facilities,” he said.

Another teacher, Neelam Kumari, said the new building would add a lot to the existing facilities for students. “Currently, students study in the open and there are many distractions. The new building will help them focus better on their studies,” he told ANI.
