Dyson launches ‘Engineering a Sustainable Future’ program in UAE schools | Jobs Vox


Dubai, United Arab Emirates: This November and December, Dyson launched the “Engineering a Sustainable Future” school program in ten schools across the UAE. The program, managed by Dyson with social impact agency Interact, inspires and excites 11-13-year-old students about engineering, innovation and sustainability.

Four engineering challenges are provided for teachers to lead in their schools, encouraging design thinking, planning and engineering solutions through hands-on activities.

Johannes Müller, Head of Dyson B2B, said: “The ‘Engineering a Sustainable Future’ school program is the perfect opportunity for young students to learn how engineering and innovation contribute to a sustainable future. The four modules build on their understanding of Lean Engineering concepts. expand and provide insight into how Dyson engineers continually innovate through fun learning and practical examples.

The event is part of Dyson’s effort to positively contribute to sustainability and engineering education for children in schools – showing them what’s possible while having fun.

Each challenge is designed around specific learning objectives to help students develop new sets of skills within Dyson’s areas of expertise. There are four modules:

  1. Indoor Air Quality – “How Clean Is Your Air?”
  2. Stability – “How much oil?”
  3. Innovation in Engineering – “Homemade Vacuum Cleaner”
  4. Cleanliness – “The Power of the Air”

Ten private schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are participating in the program in its first year, including Al Ain Academy of Elder Schools.

Ian Pugh, Principal of Al Ain Academy, Elder School, said: “The Dyson program gave our students a new and engaging approach to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and has well complemented our school’s teaching in this area complemented it. It was great to see our students working together on a variety of challenges. Making a homemade vacuum cleaner was a highlight, but they also learned how to calculate how much oil is needed to produce various plastic items. It was very enlightening for him.

As part of the program, Dyson ran a special social media contest with prizes for the top three winners going to participating schools.

The Arbor School in Dubai won 10 Airblade 9KJ hand dryers worth AED65,000 for their school washroom. Al Ain Elder Academy won 10 Dyson air purifiers for its classrooms worth AED27,990. and Dubai British School Jumeirah Park won 30 tickets for a class tour to Dubai’s Museum of the Future, worth AED4,350.
