cleveland – Eleven members of the Northern Illinois University men’s soccer team were named to the Academic All-MAC team, announced by the conference office on Friday (Dec. 16). The 11 honorees are the most for NIU in program history, breaking its previous record of nine Academic All-MAC selections set between 2016 and 2021.

NIU had the second-most sacks in the league behind only Bowling Green’s 14.

This season’s honor marks the third Academic All-MAC recognition for a trio of Huskies: Enrique Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico/Virginia), Adrian Lara (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Township) and Miguel Maynes Jr. (El Paso, Texas/New Mexico). Banuelos was also named to the College Sports Communicators All-Academic All-District Team in November and earned Academic All-America honors a season ago.

Dylan Banker (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West), Camilo Estrada (Dallas, Texas/Lone Star), Harry Jolly (Liverpool, England/St. Margaret’s Academy) and Diego Maynes (El Paso, Texas/Lone Star) each earns their second Academic All-MAC honor. Banker, Jolley and Maynes also earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators.

First-time Academic All-MAC honorees include Kevin Galliano (Bellingham, Wash./Meridian), Parker Jepson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southwest), Zakaria Thomas (Burnaby, British Columbia/Moscrop Secondary) and Malcolm Ward (Youngs, Australia/Newington College). In November, Galliano and Jepson were also recognized with Academic District Awards.
