Sunrise meteorologist Sam Mackie makes huge announcement about his future on Channel Seven’s breakfast show

Sunrise’s mobile weather presenter Sam Mack has signed a new deal that will keep him on the Channel Seven breakfast show for another two years.

The TV entertainer announced the contract extension on Friday in an Instagram post that initially looked like he was about to step down.

Sam, who recently became a father for the first time, began describing his role on the top-rated program as “the best job in the world”.

He wrote: “After seven incredible years as a sunrise meteorologist, I have decided to…

“It’s probably the best job in the world and I’d be crazy not to continue. So I’m happy to announce that I’ve got at least two more years in this role.’

He then playfully took a dig at Robert Irwin, who worked as a meteorologist for a few days earlier in the year.

– Sorry Robert. “You’ll have to wait, brother,” he said.

Sam, who welcomed daughter Margo Grace McMillan with partner Rebecca James in September, also thanked his family in the post.

He then paid tribute to Sarah Stinson, Seven’s director of morning television, as well as his fans.

“I want to give a special shout out to our viewers,” he added. “I can feel the love you have for the show and even most of you seem to find my supposed ‘humor’.”

It follows reports Sunrise presenter David ‘Kochi’ Koch is planning to retire but is committed to staying at Seven for at least two years.

He signed a contract extension in October that will lock him in until the end of 2024, but negotiated “more flexibility” in his schedule.

He struck the deal at a meeting with Seven Network chief executive James Warburton during which he expressed his interest in retiring.

Warburton was able to convince Koch to delay his retirement plans for another two years, but agreed to a contract that would allow the long-serving presenter “to take more breaks from the show as he wishes”, according to The Australian.

This adds to Koch’s already relaxed work schedule, which sees him host Sunrise four days a week, with Fridays off.

After being granted more “flexibility” with his schedule, Koch hopes to spend more time with his wife Libby and focus on his businesses Ausbiz TV and Pinstripe Media.
