Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]December 23 (ANI): A day after Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha announced that idle workers would not get their salaries, Kashmiri Pandit migrant workers staged a sit-in protesting the LG’s announcement.

Protesting workers held placards and said they could not return to work because of threats from terrorists.

“We are protesting LG Manoj Sinha’s statement on Wednesday that the government will not pay wages to the workers sitting at home. He said he has fulfilled our demands. But this is not true,” said a protesting employee.

He further said that on May 27, a representative of workers of Kashmiri Pandit held a meeting with the government and ensured security. But there was a murder on May 29, he added.

“We have been receiving repeated death threats. The latest was on Wednesday night. We were told that police would be stationed outside the place where we are posted. But we don’t trust the security policy of the administration,” he said.

Another protesting employee, Rohit, told ANI that their protest entered its 225th day on Thursday.

“The main reason behind the protest is the prevailing insecure environment in Kashmir. We have been protesting since the day the killings started against minorities in the valley. We are appealing to the government to accommodate us in a safe and secure place,” he said. (ANI)
