Freeform is an infinite canvas app from Apple, and it’s available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to maximize workflow and foster collaboration.
Apple has added a new default app called Free form on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and is an infinite canvas-style whiteboard app designed for free-thinking collaboration. The app was first announced at WWDC in June 2022, but Apple said it would debut later in the year. Freeform requires an Apple device running iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or macOS Ventura 13.1 to download.
Freeform is the first default app Apple has released in quite some time, meaning any device that’s updated with the latest software will have it installed automatically. The app’s user interface will be familiar to those who have used the Apple Notes app and appears to have been designed with the Apple Pencil in mind. However, Freeform doesn’t have the same limitations of a typical note or document. It can handle pictures, sticky notes, text boxes, shapes, and embedded media. During this time, it can be shared with up to 99 other people for in-depth collaboration.
Navigate Freeform’s open environment
After opening the Freeform app for the first time on an iPad, iPhone or Mac, users are instantly taken to the first workspace called “boards. By looking at the bottom left corner of the screen, they will see a box showing how much the board is zoomed in on. By default, the dashboard opens at 100 percent scale. By tapping on the current zoom, users can select specific zoom rates from 10 percent to 400 percent. In the same menu, users can hide the default dot grid that appears on the dashboard. Of course, touch screen devices can also use gestures to navigate the board.

Other options include adding a sticky note, creating shapes, adding text boxes, or inserting other media. While Freeform’s user interface is clearly designed with the iPad in mind, users can access and create content on an iPhone or Mac with those platforms’ default apps.
To share a dashboard with others, users must first enable iCloud syncing for Freeform. Open the Settings app, tap on the username and tap the “Show me all“under tab”Apps using iClouddepartment. Find the switch for Freeform and make sure it’s on, which will enable synced dashboards between devices and open iCloud sharing.
Go back to the dashboard and click ‘Share iticon to start collaboration. Users can share via iMessage, email, or a link to invite others to the workspace. After inviting the first person, the new “common boardA button will appear in the toolbar on the left.Share it‘ Icon. Free form Not a revolutionary note taking or project planning app for everyone, but it should be useful for creatives and those who like to take notes by hand.
