‘Gross negligence’: LG for delaying Delhi government’s pollution abatement measures | Jobs Vox

The important order to reduce air pollution in the national capital was supposed to be issued by the chief secretary in October but has not yet happened, sources in the LF office told PTI, which the LG termed as “gross negligence”.

However, the Delhi government has said it is serious and proactive in tackling air pollution in the city.

“The Delhi government’s disruption is due to environment minister Gopal Rai not clearing the file related to issuing such an order for about a month,” sources said.

Pursuant to the November 2019 Supreme Court order and the August 5, 2022 Air Quality Management Commission order, the Chief Secretary sent the file to Environment Minister Gopal Rai on October 22 for approval.

“On November 17, it was returned to the secretary-general without paying any attention to the minister. Later, the secretary-general sent a file to the National Security Agency for approval,” the source said.

Sources added that the LG, while approving the file, expressed dismay at the Delhi government’s gross indifference in the matter and asked it to be forwarded to the chief minister and the environment minister.

The “much delayed” order is now expected to be issued, they said, PTI reported.

By issuing an order, the Chief Secretary will organize measures such as demolition of buildings and structures, control of garbage and dust, spraying of water at polluted points, repair and closure of roads, and will strengthen the duties and responsibilities of the relevant officials. operations of factories in non-compliant areas, ban on open burning of biomass and solid waste, implementation of pollution control (PUC) certificates and other works are being taken up.

Countering the allegations, Delhi government Chief Minister Kejriwal has launched a 15-point action plan to check air pollution in the capital during winter, PTI reported.

Delhi’s air pollution is under control this time compared to the last few years as it is being “successfully” implemented by all concerned agencies, the government said in a statement.
