Engineering student wins TMS scholarship | Jobs Vox

Chemical and Materials Engineering (CME) student Sidney Fields has received 2023 $2,500 Structural Materials Division (SMD) Scholarship From the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) Foundation. The TMS Foundation helps nurture the future of the minerals, metals and materials sectors by supporting scholarship and student programs.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this award,” Fields said. “I thoroughly enjoy working in the materials science and engineering field, and it is inspiring to be selected as a recipient. I am very grateful to my mentors and lab mates who encouraged me.

Fields has been a member of TMS since 2021, and is advised by CME Assistant Professor Yufeng Zheng. She is in Zheng’s research group through a Nevada Undergraduate Research Award.

“Sydney is an ideal student in our Materials Science and Engineering program and she has excelled in her academics, research and service,” said Zheng. “Sydney’s work represents the highest level of research from our graduate students.”
