The Dallas City Council voted to execute a contract with an outside firm to perform preliminary engineering design services for the White Rock Lake Dredging Project.

It’s been more than two decades since White Rock Lake was dredged. Earlier, the lake has been drained in 1937, 1955, 1974 and 1998.
In 2014, a study by the Texas Water Development Board found that the amount of water in the lake was about 8,000 acre-feet less than its original volume in 1911, when the lake was created.
A dredging feasibility study was completed in September 2020.
City Council member Paula Blackmon said at the meeting, “It’s time for a new dredge.”
Blackmon, whose district includes White Rock Lake, was designed to be a beaver fashioned from all the junk clogging the lake, including vegetation, garbage, spoons, basketballs and cigarettes. He thanked the Parks Department and Dallas Water Utilities for their work in this most recent development in the dredging project.
“I hope everyone will join me in dredge baby dredge,” she said.
