The nightmare season continues for Patriots quarterback Mack Jones | Jobs Vox

Mack Jones has yet to wake up from the nightmare of a 2023 season.

The worst stat by a Patriot quarterback in a 30-24 loss to the Raiders?

This is probably a spoiler. There are some compelling choices that fit the bill.

That could be a miserable 13 for 31 for 112 passing yards (52.1 passer rating), which he posted against the NFL’s worst pass defense in DVOA.

It could be his goal-line sneak from Jonu Smith’s false start. So that stat and shot is wiped out with a one point loss.

Or maybe it’s the missed tackle on Chandler Jones’ game-winning touchdown. In fact, Jones looked more like roadkill on this play.

With the game tied and no time left on the clock, the Patriots decided to punt as Ramondre Stevenson continued to run and had a big gain, but when he was challenged, he was tackled by Jacoby Myers, who then committed a costly fumble. And the unexplained pass/side Jones.

Raiders pass rusher Chandler Jones caught the ball and proceeded to run over Jones en route to the game-winning touchdown.

Jones briefly circled the train in a Raiders uniform. But he was essentially trampled by the 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end, who ran 48 yards into the end zone, which he returned.

The Patriots quarterback still thought he had to make a punt to send the game into overtime.

“Yeah, I’ve got to deal with the guy,” Jones said after the loss. “It’s my fault. If I handle it, then we’re going to overtime. So it’s on me. I have to do it. It’s not good enough for me. It is what it is. You just have to deal with it. And play for overtime. It’s on me.”

Mack’s ineffectiveness throwing the football also forced the Patriots to largely run the second half, with Ramondre Stevenson amassing 172 yards on 19 carries.

Jones, usually a fairly accurate passer, saw many of his shots go nowhere near the target. The Raiders defense really had nothing to do with Jones’ poor shooting exhibition. He just couldn’t hit his receivers much of the game.

That coincided with the Patriots once again suffering a third down on offense. It didn’t seem possible that Mac & Co. The third was supposed to be worse than the previous few games, and yet it was. They converted just 2-of-13 (15.4%), which is about as bad as it gets.

“There’s a lot of things I could have done better in the game. (If I did), we’re not even in that situation,” Jones lamented. “I’m not playing well and we’re in that situation (late in the game), it’s scary.”

Jones wasn’t helped by several dropped balls, especially by Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. But in the end, Jones’ erratic play led to Matt Patricia’s hesitation call.

“I didn’t play well enough today,” he said. “If you don’t do that, you’re not going to score. It is a difficult situation, it will definitely happen to me. I should be better. I’m going to watch film and do what I always do and just try to get better.

“It’s a tough deal but you’ve just got to keep working … it’s going to hurt, it’s going to break, but we’ve got more games to play.” We have to turn the page and keep fighting. do not give up. That’s the only thing we can’t do is give up.”
