Telangana: Engineers successfully operationalize two pumps at Kannepally

Ramagundam Nala’s engineering-in-chief Venkateswarlu said they were able to successfully run two pumps at the Kannepally pumphouse.

Hyderabad: The Irrigation Department on Sunday succeeded in operating two pumps of the Kannepalli Pumphouse, a major part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, on the Godavari River in Medigadda village of Mahadevapura block of Jaishankar Bhupalpally. The pumphouse was heavily damaged during a heavy flood on 14 July, submerging 17 motors and control panels, causing heavy damage.

Ramagundam Nala’s engineering-in-chief Venkateswarlu said they were able to successfully run two pumps at the Kannepally pumphouse. He said that each pump has a design discharge of 2200 cusecs.

According to officials, the government had announced in the assembly that the Kaleshwaram pumps would be restored immediately and water would be made available for the Yasangi season. As promised, Annaram Pump House has been renovated and Kannepalli Pump House is also ready.

While the Kannepally pumphouse has 17 motors of 40 MW capacity each, the authorities aim to have 11 pumps ready by the end of this month. The security wall has been rebuilt. The drying process was carried out without opening the electrical equipment and without any moisture. It has been decided to start lifting through 6 pumps first.
