“An announcement…after seven incredible years as Sunrise Meteorologist, I’ve decided…” Sam began expectantly.
“It (being a weather anchor) is without a doubt the best job in the world and I would be crazy not to continue.
“So I’m happy to announce that I’ve got at least two more years in this role☀️.”
Sam apologized to Robert Irwin and told the wildlife conservationist that he would “have to wait” a little longer if he ever wanted a job.
This follows a joke between Sam and Robert that Steve Irwin’s son is getting a job as a weather anchor.
“The team at Sunrise and especially our super boss Sarah Stinson have been so supportive and flexible with my new life as a dad,” he said.
“It means a lot 💜.
“We were able to find a way to make the grueling travel schedule work for everyone.
“I’m looking forward to getting our little family on the road and showing Beck and Margot the best places Australia has to offer (open for offers next year).”
Sam and partner Bec James welcomed baby Margot in September and she has already been traveling around Australia with her dad.
“I want to give a special shout out to our viewers,” Sam continued.
“I can feel the love you all have for the show, and most of you even seem to share my supposed ‘humor.’
“It often gets in the way when you stop me at airports or cafes to say hello and take a selfie (if the lighting and angles are right 🤳).
Sam shared two photos of himself doing the Living Cross, with producer Sean Flynn standing on the left, holding his head in his hands.
“Swipe to the second photo to see how excited he was to find out he’s going to be working with me for at least two more years,” Sam said, revealing a zoomed-in shot of Shawn.
After she broke the news, Sam’s partner Beck wrote: “So excited for you my love.”
Edwina Bartholomew, the anchor of Sunrise, also responded.
“Great news Sam. That passenger bed is going to get a workout,” he said.
Sam took over Edwina’s Weather Presenting Sunrise gig in January 2016.
