With limited lineups due to illness, five Nebraska athletes competed for the Pioneer girls wrestling team during one of the Midwest’s premier meets, the Council Bluffs Classic hosted by the Mid America Center on Friday and Saturday.

Hart Rioza was the fourth-place finisher for the Pioneers at 100 pounds.

Coach Ron Shaulis said Riosa wrestled his best tournament of the junior season and continues to improve his technique while growing in confidence.

Riley Stracke, 120 pounds, won eighth and Jocelyn Davis was seventh at 125 pounds. Lexin Harker wrestled at 155 pounds. Anna Kent won two matches but did not place at 170 pounds.

Coach Shaulis said Strack is improving his skills while Davis continues to impress, while Harker won his first matches of the season and continues to learn and improve as a first-year wrestler.

Coach Shaulis said the tournament was big and tough with 40 quality teams.

The coach said his team hopes the wrestlers will be back and healthy because training has been tough on the limited roster. Shaulis said he is happy to see the team continue to progress.

The Pioneers were scheduled to play Fairbury on Thursday and Platteview on Friday.
