It was an exciting year Patriots quarterback Mc Jones.
New England currently sits on the brink of the playoff picture after being knocked out of the hunt after Sunday’s gut-wrenching, last-second 30-24 loss to the Raiders.
When coach Bill Belichick was asked if he expects to keep Jones as the starter for the rest of the season, he didn’t directly answer the question. While Jones is expected to be the starter against the Bengals on Saturday, it could still be up in the air until Belichick officially names a starter.
“Yeah, the plan is to beat Cincinnati,” Belichick said when asked if Jones would start the rest of the season.
It looks like Jones will have to play well on Saturday to stay in the starting role and increase Belichick’s confidence in him.
In Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, Jones posted a season-worst 52.1 rating after completing just 13-of-31 passes for 112 yards and zero touchdowns.
If Belichick decides to bench Jones at any point for the rest of the season, he will likely be replaced by starter Bailey Zappé.
Zapp started two games in Jones’ absence when he suffered a sprained ankle. He played in two other games this season, completing 65-of-92 passing attempts for 781 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.
