Sources said on Thursday that the first meeting of the newly elected MRC will be held on January 6 next year. “Delhi LG, VK Saxena, in exercise of his powers under Section 73 of the Corporation Act of Delhi, 1957, approved the proposal to convene the first meeting of the newly elected Corporation on Friday, January 6, 2023.” said the source.

The proposal to hold the first meeting of the MRC on December 12 was forwarded by the Commissioner (MRC) to the Urban Development Department and asked for approval from the Central Government.

“Then the file approved by Deputy (Urban Development) Minister and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was received at Raj Niwas on December 14 and approved by the LG on the same day,” the source said. added. Sub-section (1) of Section 35 of the DMC Act states, “The Corporation shall, at its first annual meeting, elect one of its members to be the Mayor and another member to be the Day Mayor. of the corporation”.

According to Article 77 of the above law, the Chairperson of the meeting to elect the Mayor shall be a Councilor who did not run for the election and shall be nominated by the City Council.
