The closing ceremony will take place before the finals as the curtain falls on the tournament in Qatar. Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will preside over the biggest spectacle in the men’s game. This is the last game before the return of the Premier League and other top leagues around the world.
As for Argentina, they have grown in this tournament and Lionel Scaloni has created a hungry side that can sit back, then step into challenges and surge forward, with Messi pulling the strings and the brilliant Julian Alvarez bolstering the opposition. There is a sense of destiny when it comes to this Argentinian side.

France have fancied their way to the final as they have rarely been in top form at this tournament, but given the injury problems they’ve had before, we can see just how deep this France squad is as they head into the World Cup. Titles under Didier Deschamps. Like Argentina, they prefer to sit back and attack teams on the counter, and of course that means finding Mbappe as often as possible.

ᲜῦᲮᲕῦῦạạạạ – Argentina 2-0 France – It’s going great for Argentina. Can France go more direct and get back into it?
France’s substitutes are Dembele and Giroud, as are Kolo Mouan and Thuram.
Goal! Great counter attack from Argentina and some great passes to find Angel Di Maria and his finish is lovely. 2-0 to Argentina before half time. They are in dreamland.
🔥 Place this objective in the museum. Excellent transmission and movement.

Can France respond? Argentina can now sit back and attack France on the counter. It is perfectly arranged for them.
GOALLLL! Lionel Messi takes the penalty kick and keeps his composure to send Lloris the wrong way. 1-0 to Argentina.

Penalty to Argentina! Di Mariam Dembele cut in the box. There is a great chance for Lionel Messi to open the account. Argentina started the final much better than France.

Major storylines, players should watch carefully
The main battle and storyline is clearly a master against his apprentice. Will the 35-year-old Lionel Messi win the World Cup trophy he has longed for during his legendary career? Or will his PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe, 23, lead France to back-to-back World Cups and the second of his youth career? Elsewhere on the pitch, the main battle will take place in the midfield.
The midfield trio of Enzo Fernandez, Rodrigo de Paul and Alexis McAllister have been sensational for Argentina, while in defense they are flexible to switch between four and five. Montiel and Acuna’s return from suspension will add to Lionel Scallone’s selection headache as he looks to lead Argentina to a third World Cup trophy and first since 1986, when the great Diego Maradona led them to glory in Mexico. Can Messi do the same in Qatar? However, Messi is nursing a sore hamstring this week and all eyes will be on him (naturally) and his fitness, but he is starting. Scalloni starts at the four, but Tagliafico starts at left guard in front of Acuna. Angel Di Maria starts in place of Paredes, indicating that Argentina are off the field.
As for France, they have had a good run at this tournament and the reigning champions have hardly been electric. But they got the job done and are one win away from becoming the third team in history to win back-to-back World Cups. Didier Deschamps has been plagued by major injuries leading up to this World Cup, but his team has bounced back very well with youth reinforcements. Ibrahima Konate entered the semi-finals and played very well, but Dayot Upamecano is ahead of him. Like Argentina, France still look a bit shaky in defence. In midfield, Antoine Griezmann is turning back the years in his new deeper playmaking role and Aurelien Chuamen has been excellent in the holding role. Up top, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud clash and give France incredible balance. In the French camp, many players were affected by illness, but all of them recovered in time. There have also been reports that Karim Benzema could return to the France squad for this final after he pulled out with an injury before the start of the tournament and was never replaced, but now he is back. Deschamps refused to talk about this topic and Benzema is not in the team.
