New England Patriots quarterback Mack Jones may have had his worst game as an NFL passer on Sunday. And it ended with former Alabama All-American Chandler Jones stiff-arming him on the ground as the Las Vegas Raiders defensive end scored the game-winning touchdown on an inexplicable head-scratching play as time expired.
After blowing a 17-3 lead, the Raiders became the first team in NFL history to lose five games in a season after leading by double digits at halftime.
But trailing 24-17, Las Vegas drove 81 yards in nine plays in 1:39 to tie the game on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Derek Carr to wide receiver Keelan Cole with 32 seconds to play.

New England went six snaps after that touchdown, with Ramondre Stevenson blasting it up the middle for the final. But with 23 yards to go, Stevenson threw the football to wide receiver Jacoby Myers.
Myers then attempted to return the football to Mack Jones, who was 15 yards away. Instead, Chandler Jones caught the football and strong-armed a New England quarterback on his 48-yard run into the end zone, giving the Raiders a 30-24 win.
“I have to deal with the boy” – said Mc Jones. “It’s about me. it’s my fault. If we fight him – or I fight him – then we’re playing for overtime, so it’s up to me. You have to do this. Not good enough for me. It is what it is and I have to deal with it and play for overtime, so it’s on me.”
New England coach Bill Belichick declined to say whether Patriots players were instructed on the sideline play on the final play or were reminded not to do so with the score tied.
“Mistake in the play” Belichick said. “… Here we are talking about situational football. We talk about it every week. But obviously we have to play better situational football and not make critical mistakes in the game.”
On Sunday, Jones completed 13-of-31 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Jones is the first quarterback in three years to throw at least 31 times in an NFL game and complete no more than 13. Jones’ completion rate of 41.9 percent was the lowest of his NFL career, and his 112 passing yards were his fewest. A game he was healthy enough to finish.
“I think Jacob is one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.” Jones said. He is a fighter and does everything to help the team. Obviously, you have to ask the coach about it and see what our plan was, but at the end of the day, the guy is out there fighting and trying to compete and win the game.
“There’s a lot of things I could have done better in the game, so we’re not even in that situation. I’m not playing well; we’re in that situation. It’s scary. It’s tough, but I love Jakob and I love all the guys on our team. It’s not Jakob’s fault.”
New England had three offensive possessions gain more than 26 yards on Sunday. The first two resulted in field goals, the first short on a false start penalty on fourth-and-goal at the Las Vegas 1-yard line.
The third drive included a 39-yard completion to Jonesy Meyers, followed by Stevenson’s 34-yard run to the end zone as the Patriots took a 24-17 lead with 3:43 to play.
“I think we could have scored more points earlier” Jones said. “A play is a play and I didn’t make enough good plays today. If you don’t, you’re not going to score. It’s a tough situation and it really falls on me. I have to get better. “
Patriots trailed 7-7. The loss dropped New England out of one of the AFC’s wild-card playoff positions with three games remaining in the regular season. The Patriots return to action on Christmas Eve when the Cincinnati Bengals visit Gillette Stadium.
