SDA satellite campus laid foundation stone

SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha today laid foundation stone for Srinagar Development Authority’s Satellite Town at Rah Gund Aksha and Housing Colony at Bemina, Srinagar.
Congratulating the SDA authorities for setting up the first satellite town in Kashmir district, Sinha said the new initiative aims to decongest the city and meet the need for affordable housing for the growing population.
Shehjar Heights Housing Colony is a symbol of middle class aspirations. He added that the two projects will provide families with quality and valuable living space, as well as act as drivers of economic development and unlock local economic potential.
The governor emphasized the need to increase the speed and scale of construction in accordance with the needs of the growing population. He directed H&UDD to review the projects from time to time to ensure timely completion of these projects.
The governor added that the town will be built independently with the infrastructure of enterprises, offices, trade, organization buildings, hotels and other facilities, and will provide comfortable working and living conditions.
It is worth mentioning here that a new Medical and High Court complex is under construction near the campus, which will make the entire area another bustling hub in the Srinagar area. The township will also have planned residential clusters with neighborhood-level health and education facilities. The Shehjar Heights residential colony in Bemina will have a market road network with paved roads, club house with swimming pool, gymnasium, community hall and shopping mall.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to revamp the UT’s urban landscape, Sinha said J&K’s cities and towns are experiencing transformative urbanization as a result of infrastructure planning and execution, supporting local development.
The ongoing transformation in Srinagar, Jammu and their neighboring cities is an expression of sustainable development, said the Lieutenant Governor.
He pointed out that housing is the most important component of the city’s development and defines the culture of the city, and emphasized that the infrastructure under construction should reflect the aesthetic and cultural values of our city.
Companion cities and residential colonies will accelerate economic activity in J&K, augment our efforts to meet the challenges of urbanization and provide better housing to people. It will also create large-scale skilled and unskilled jobs, he added.
Development of services, housing and infrastructure that meet the needs of citizens should be a key component of the master plan. “We also need to change our approach and focus on meeting the needs of urban dwellers,” notes Sinha.
He also urged elected public representatives and ordinary citizens to play an important role in the success of the G20 presidency. He also sought suggestions from delegates and people from all over the world to make their visit memorable.
Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the need for satellite towns and housing colonies to meet the growing housing needs of the city’s population.
Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, informed about the newly launched housing projects.
Aftab Malik, Chairman, GCA Srinagar; Pandurang K Pole, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Mohammad Aijaz, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Atar Aamir Khan, Commissioner SMC; Dr. Haris Ahmad Khandoo, Srinagar Development Authority and other senior officers of the Bank, Police and Civil Administration attended the event at the Kashmir Convention Centre.
