An important meeting regarding Local Government (LG) elections in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad was held at the Sindh Secretariat on Thursday, chaired by Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput. Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, Home Minister Saeed Ahmed Mangrejo, IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho were present while Commissioner Hyderabad and concerned DCs participated through video link. During the meeting, they got acquainted with the security and other regulations of the second round of the provincial assembly elections.

In the meeting, Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that elections will be held in 4995 polling stations in Karachi and 3971 polling stations in Hyderabad and surveillance cameras will be installed in 1675 polling stations in Karachi and 1015 high-sensitivity polling areas. Chief Secretary Sindh has directed Commissioner Karachi and Commissioner Hyderabad to make arrangements at all polling stations. “The Sindh government is creating a peaceful environment for transparent, fair and secure general elections as per the instructions and recommendations of the Election Commission of Pakistan,” it said. During the meeting, state election commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan said that local body elections will be held in Karachi and Hyderabad districts on January 15.
During the meeting, Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said that a security plan for local elections has been prepared. He said that 38,233 policemen would be deployed in Karachi and 24,000 policemen in Hyderabad to perform security duties.
At the meeting, all the deputy chiefs gave information about the security, transportation plan and the general status of the sub-district committees.
Chief Secretary Sindh has directed Secretary School Education and Secretary College Education to ensure water and electricity supply to polling stations established in schools and colleges.
