According to the 2017 population census, there are 101 NBUs in the capital. However, the capital’s population has increased by 2.5 million, creating the need for more UCs. Based on the current population, the number of UCs should be increased to 125, he said.

The Islamabad Metropolitan Local Government Act, passed in 2015, aims to create an elected system of local government that devolves political, administrative and financial powers to promote good governance and effective services through the day-to-day involvement and participation of citizens. rule of the day. The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (MCI) is a municipal corporation established under the ICT Local Government Act, 2015.

Based on the findings, the current number of UCs has been fixed at 101 based on the 2017 census, administrator MCI said. However, Islamabad’s population increased to approximately 205 million five years later. Therefore, the number of UC should be increased to 125.

Sections 4 (1) and 6 (1) of ICT Local Government Act, 2015 state that the federal government is empowered to determine the number of UCs in the capital city of Islamabad through a notification published in the official gazette (Annexure-1). In the latest notification issued by this Ministry with the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, the number of Union Councils has been fixed at 101.

According to official sources, it is likely to be approved through the circulation of notices.
