LG confirms its most likely latest update by detailing its Android 13 release.
According to LG Korea’s official update post, the company will begin rolling out Android 13 to the LG Velvet in the first quarter of 2023. Another new smartphone from the company is in the pipeline for this New Year and it is the LG Wing. Listed alongside the Velvet, the Korean OEM’s unique dual-screen device has received three major OS updates, bringing it to Android 13.
While this first look doesn’t reveal when exactly the LG Wing will receive the Android 13 update, the device is included in the first quarter of security updates along with the LG Q61, Q92 5G, and Q52 5G. new year However, there is no mention of the LG V60 and we expect to receive Android 13 at some point.
LG also reports that this update for Android 13 and the following security updates apply to devices in Korea. So, owners of any of the mentioned devices will have to wait a bit longer before rolling out the updates to other regions after LG completes the updates in their region.
LG dropped out of the smartphone game a while back, but the company is still committed to delivering updates, even if it’s taken a long time to catch up with some of its latest handsets. The LG Velvet and Wing are among those devices, the latter of which received the very quiet Android 12 update this year.
This OS update wasn’t really exclusive to the phone, other than Google’s software-assisted improvements. There are also very few visible changes, which is unfortunate for anyone hoping for a large update of your dynamic themes. It’s safe to assume that Android 13 is what owners of (at times) Velvet and the Wing are waiting for.
This year’s Android OS is basically LG’s last major OS update for its customers, and it’s still the only option for anyone to find a new Android phone.
