LG Display has dramatically increased production of its next-generation EX OLED panels | Jobs Vox

[ad_1]

LG Display launched a new panel in 2022 called EX OLED, which undoubtedly had a big impact on the picture quality of that year’s premium OLED TVs, but implementing this brightness and color-enhancing technology was no problem. Early production limitations of the smaller EX OLED screen sizes meant that some initial production of the 2022 premium OLED TV series had to be made up of older OLED panels with the smallest screen sizes. Also, cheap OLED frames are often built around non-EX OLED technology, negating the 30% brightness boost, extra color gamut/naturalism, and slimmer design of EX panels.

Fortunately, thanks to the successful conversion of two of LG’s most important OLED manufacturing facilities to 100% EX panel production, we can look forward to a wider and more consistent EX presence in the OLED world. This means that from now on, every OLED panel LG Display makes will use EX technology.

According to LG Display (as first reported by Flatpanels HD ), its major factories in Paju, South Korea, and Guangzhou, China, will start producing EX panels only after the end of the second quarter of 2022. 2023 TV series production schedule for all major TV brands.

This doesn’t mean EVERY OLED TV will benefit from EX panels in 2023; A large pile of old panel designs can still find their way into “budget” OLED frames.

EX panels introduce deuterium into the manufacturing process, a material that is more resistant to electrical stimulation and heat than traditional OLED production materials, allowing the panels to operate brighter without the risk of rapid wear of organic elements. The EX manufacturing process allows OLED panels to be made 4mm thinner than conventional OLED models, leading to a new generation of thinner and lighter OLED TV models.

LG Display talks more about another benefit of EX technology: every EX panel coming off the production line is inspected by an AI-based inspection system that evaluates their specific capabilities and optimizes the way pixels work. A process that LG says results in “the truest, most natural colors on the screen.”

Of course, LG Display could significantly increase production of EX panels in 2022, which could lead to savings that could lead to cheaper high-end OLED TVs next year. Although the spiraling costs of energy, production and transportation currently impacting global markets may have to wait a little longer before significant price benefits emerge.
