At CES 2023, we’re expecting the LG C3 OLED TV, which will be the latest in LG’s hugely popular (and seriously impressive) C-series OLED TVs. The current version is the LG C2 and the previous one was the LG C1 so I’d say the next version will be the LG C3…
The LG C2 OLED TVs have had a fantastic year, receiving praise from this and many other publications. It won our TV of the Year award TechRadar Choice Awards 2022.
What puts LG’s C2 series at the top of our list? the best 4K TVand sealing the award was its perfect balance of features, performance and value – we can’t think of another TV that offers this much for the price.
Specifically, the C2 series features the company’s next-generation OLED Evo panel, which boasts brighter lighting than previous OLEDs, as well as a new Alpha a9 Gen 5 processor for improved HDR handling. It offers full HDMI 2.1 functionality, fully compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S game consoles – it’s the ultimate gaming TV and perfect for watching movies.
We love the C2 series TVs, but we can’t wait for the next generation from LG. What LG cooking upgrades make the C3 better than the C2? Right now we can only speculate, but based on the development of OLED technology over the past year, the development of the TV industry as a whole, and some knowledge from OLED display insiders, there are a few things we can see. C3 series TV – all this will help to maintain its position as the best OLED TV for most people.
1. Improved picture quality
While most new generation TVs have improved picture quality, the LG C3 series will have something special. LG Display recently announced that it is relocating its OLED manufacturing plants to manufacturing only OLED.EX panelsA new version of the screen used in the LG G2 and C2 series TVs.
The main advantage that OLED.EX brings is improved brightness: up to 30% higher light output, according to LG. But another feature from the larger G2 series, the Brightness Booster (basically, a heat sink built into the OLED panel that allows it to drive more power for higher light output), we hope will carry over to our C3 series. As a result, the company’s more value-oriented high-performance OLED line will offer the same powerful peak brightness as its previous flagship.
2. Better speakers
The C2 series isn’t a bad TV choice for audio (it’s on our list the best TV for soundbut at the bottom) but the sound is not on the same level as the picture, so audio is an area where the new C3 series could offer improvement.
When LG has released its 97-inch OLED screen One of the highlights of the models at the K-Display 2022 exhibition was high-performance audio. The company’s televised sound feature is called Film CSO (for Cinematic Sound OLED), and is described as a “5.1-channel surround sound system built into the screen” that uses film-based actuators rather than voice coils. usually using loudspeakers.
LG’s description makes the feature comparable to Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio technology. Sony A80K A TV that uses a volume control built into the display panel. Regardless of the details of the technology, which we’ll learn more about at CES 2023, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on LG’s C3 series of OLED displays.
3. Larger screen size
Well, it’s more of a wish than an expectation. LG’s C2 series screen sizes range from 42 inches to 83 inches, with 42-, 55-, 65-, and 77-inch models. The only larger TVs the company offers are the 88-inch Z8, an 8K model, and the 97-inch G2.
We’re not holding out much hope that LG will drop the screen size to 97 inches like the upcoming C3, as that’s a feature we’d like to reserve for the high-end ‘Gallery’ series sets. If not, we could get an 88-inch model, which would be significantly less than the $25,000 LG charges for the current 97-inch G2. The 83-inch C2 retails for less than $4,500, so the larger model, which costs a few thousand more, is the best 4K projector available.
4. Wireless noise
LG’s current C2 series wireless audio support comes via Bluetooth output and a WiSA (Wireless Speaker and Audio Link) add-on for uncompressed audio streaming to WiSA-compatible speakers. While many people are hot on the heels of home theater and looking for the best Dolby Atmos soundbar to give them, the latter hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.
For the C3 series, we expect to see a feature that allows for wireless Dolby Atmos connectivity between the TV and compatible external soundbars. A feature like this is 100% possible on 2022 Samsung TVs and soundbars, eliminating the need for an HDMI connection between the TV and soundbar, making the installation sleeker and easier… plus you get one of your ports back. !
LG’s latest soundbar, the LG S95QR, supports wireless audio streaming to the soundbar using a technology called Wowcast. But it still requires an adapter to connect to your HDMI ports. Installing Wowcast on the C3 seems like a slam dunk.
What else is possible?
What other updates will LG bring to its C3 series OLED TVs? HDR10+ High Dynamic Range has been added along with DTS:X audio support. Although the C2 series is already a great gaming TV, the addition of 144Hz refresh rate support will make it even better. And it will definitely have a new and more advanced image processor.
LG’s current C2 series OLED TVs are good enough that they don’t need much improvement, but we’re sure the next-generation C3 models will include at least one of the aforementioned upgrades. We’ll have more on this when LG unveils its new TVs at CES 2023. the best soundbars and the best 4K projector.
