LG C2 OLED TV Review | Jobs Vox

[ad_1]

If you’re a fan of OLED TVs — their deep blacks, rich colors, and perfect for watching movies at home — LG has long been a name to look out for. LG’s C line sits in the middle of its OLED TV line-up, offering a combination of features and price for those looking for an OLED TV. Now, Samsung, Vizio and Sony all offer TVs that use display technology, and all have some valid reasons to choose them, but that doesn’t make the LG Evo C2 any less impressive.

The C2 produces great pictures, has excellent software, and has the latest technology to keep gamers happy. There’s really little not to like about this TV, and there’s plenty to bring a smile to your face while watching your favorite movies and shows or playing games. Deciding which OLED to get has become difficult, but you can’t go wrong with the 2022 Evo C2.

An OLED TV that does everything well

The LG Evo C2 is an excellent OLED TV for any type of content, with rich colors, deep blacks and good contrast. Players will enjoy the latest technology support and low latency for each HDMI port. It also comes in a wide selection of sizes to fit your room.

From the moment I turned on the C2, I knew I was in for a treat. Bright reds, yellows, blues, and greens jump off the screen. The vivid colors really pulsated during King’s comeback while watching Elvis. The deep blacks and contrast made it easy to see details in dark scenes, especially useful when watching episodes of House of Dragons or The Sandman in dimly lit rooms.

I made very few adjustments to get to the picture settings I liked best. The “AI” setting, which adjusts to the conditions of the room, was much more interesting than another new high-end TV from Samsung.

One knock against OLED and LED is OLED’s brightness, but the C2 is plenty bright. When viewing in a fairly well-lit room during the day, I had no problem making out details, and it was noticeably sharper than the LG C9 I have. But the C2 isn’t as bright as some of the newer OLEDs from other companies, which is one of the few reasons to consider another OLED TV.

The C2 offers all the technology a gamer using one of the latest game consoles would want: 120Hz refresh rate, variable frequency, auto-latency mode, as well as Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync. And its four HDMI inputs all support version 2.1, meaning it’s capable of providing the smoothest gaming experience for those with a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or high-end gaming PC.

But does it really make a difference? Oh yes. C2 has created the smoothest and most colorful game ever seen on Xbox Series X. In Forza Horizon 5, the screen followed cars racing at top speeds. In Fortnite, the action was frenetic and intense. It almost was too visually intense.

The C2 runs WebOS, one of the best TV operating systems around. And it’s fast on the C2: Apps open quickly and you can load content in seconds. Samsung’s Tizen operating system on the QN90B feels sluggish by comparison.

WebOS is also robust. It has all the apps I was looking for. It offers responsive voice control via Google Assistant or Alexa, both of which are built-in. It can act as a smart home hub to control other connected devices in your home, making it truly the hub of your home.

The C2 is smaller and larger than most other OLED TV lines. LG has increased the available C line every year, and the C2 offers the most options. You can choose from 42 inches ($1,249.99) or as small as 83 inches ($4,999.99). We tested the 65-inch ($1,899.99) model. Samsung’s S95B, its OLED option, only comes in 55-inch ($1,699.99) or 65-inch ($2,099.99) sizes.

When you spend thousands of dollars on a TV, expect a stand to match the screen. Although the C2’s stand looks sleek with its brushed metal finish, it’s not well thought out. First, this was one of the more complicated racks I’ve installed recently, and I don’t have instructions on how to put it together. Worse, it sticks in front of the TV, so if you use a soundbar, you’ll have to place it a few inches away from the screen. It only raises the TV 2.25 inches above the surface, which means the soundbar can block the bottom of the picture. If you got a C2, do yourself a favor and buy another rack or plan to install one.

WebOS itself is a solid and fast operating system for TVs, but LG has cluttered its home page to make it less useful. It has two rows of content including ads on top of the installed apps. If you dig deep enough into the system settings, you can turn off ads, but there’s not much you can do about the home screen layout. Overall, the home screen will have fewer distractions and more focus on what you want to do. I found myself using voice commands more often than usual to get through the chaos of the home screen.

The sound on the TV is much better than the older models, but it still doesn’t match the picture quality. Built-in 2.2-channel speakers allow you to listen to conversations without straining your ears, but the sound has little bass. Given the stunning visuals produced by the screen, it would be a shame to miss out on the audio component that creates an immersive experience. Add a soundbar or even better a complete home theater setup to complete your home entertainment system.

Even as competition from OLED TVs has improved, the LG Evo C2 is still one of the best TVs you can buy. It has beautiful graphics, the latest technology for gaming consoles, and good software to run it all. In addition, you can find it in the right size for any room.

In some cases, the C2 may not be right for you, especially if you have a very bright room and like to watch during the day. But for almost everyone, the C2 will delight your eyes every time you sit down.
