JAMMU: Three new schemes — Integrated Development of Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Ambitious Urban Development Program and Ambitious Panchayat Development Program — were announced by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday. These projects were approved by the Administrative Council headed by the Governor.
In July this year, the UT administration formed an Apex Committee with former ICAR Chairman Dr Mangala Rai to develop Agriculture and Allied Sectors holistically. The committee made a comprehensive plan in the form of 29 projects. What is unique about these projects is that they were developed in a consultative manner, including input from all stakeholders, including farmers.
The LG said that the projects approved by the Board, with an outlay of Rs 5,013 crore over the next five years, will transform J&K’s agricultural economy on a new growth path.
The event will create employment opportunities for more than 2.8 million young people and create about 19,000 enterprises. More than 2.5 million people are involved in seed production, precision vegetable farming, beekeeping, cocoon farming, mushroom farming, integrated and organic agriculture, high-density fruit farming, processing, dairy, sheep and livestock farming. Each must be specialized in agriculture. poultry farming as well as fodder production, the LG’s office said.
The Nurturing Panchayat Development Program will select 285 most backward Panchayats (one Panchayat per block) for comprehensive development. These Aspirational Panchayats will be developed by integrating various ongoing District / UT schemes and Centrally sponsored schemes. An additional financial assistance of Rs.10 lakh will be provided to selected Panchayats.
Additional assistance will be provided to the “Aspirational Cities Development Program” under the Urban Reform Support Fund (URIF) to support reforms in municipal administration.
“It is our responsibility to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” said the deputy governor.
