Macos update

Having the latest version of macOS on your MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or iMac ensures that you always have the latest features and security enhancements available for your machine.

You can use Software Update in Settings to install updates and updates for macOS and its built-in apps, including Safari. Always make sure to back up your Mac before installing new software.

Update

  • From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen:
  • Select System Settings. Then in the sidebar, click General and on the right click Software Update.
  • Or select System Preferences. Then click Update Software.
  • If Software Update detects new software, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install it.
  • Enter your administrator password if prompted. During installation, you may restart your Mac and see a progress bar or blank screen several times.

If Software Update says your Mac is up to date, then new software is not currently available for your Mac model. Also, Software Update only shows updates and updates that are compatible with your Mac.
