If you’re on a Mac and have been using AirPlay to mirror your Mac screen to a TV or another Mac, you may now be wondering how to turn AirPlay on and off to stop screen extension or screen mirroring.
There are several ways to disable AirPlay on Mac, we’ll show you the easiest methods. They work the same way to disable AirPlay whether you’re mirroring or extending the screen.
Turn off AirPlay on Mac via Control Center
You can quickly turn off AirPlay in macOS Ventura 13 or later by doing the following:
- On a Mac with AirPlay active, go to Control Center by clicking the two switches icon in the upper right corner
- Select “Screen Mirroring”
- From the menu that appears, select the screen your Mac is AirPlay mirroring to, this will disable AirPlay and turn it off.
You can also enable Screen Mirroring and AirPlay this way, which you probably already know if you enable it in the first place.
Disable AirPlay on Mac via System Preferences
Another approach is to disable AirPlay from System Preferences:
- From the Apple menu, select “System Preferences”
- Select AirPlay Display to extend or mirror the screen
- Select Disable
Disable AirPlay on Mac by turning off the AirPlay receiver
If you’re projecting your Mac screen to a TV or mirroring a TV, you can simply turn off the TV and AirPlay will automatically turn off within a minute.
So there you have it, three different ways to disable AirPlay or turn it off on your Mac. Some users find it not particularly intuitive, especially since the arrival of macOS Ventura, but like most things, once you learn how it works, it becomes easy.
