Disabling AirDrop in MacOS is the same in all versions of MacOS and Mac OS X, regardless of the system software version. How:
- Open Finder on your Mac
- Go to AirDrop in the sidebar of a Finder window, or pull down the Go menu and choose AirDrop from there.
- Click the small blue text at the bottom of the AirDrop window that says “Let me discover:” and select “No One” to turn off AirDrop.
If AirDrop is turned off, you won’t be able to discover other devices looking for AirDrop destinations. This means that you will not be able to receive any file or data sharing requests from anyone via AirDrop.
How to enable AirDrop on Mac
If you want to turn on AirDrop at any time on your Mac, just switch the AirDrop Allowed settings to Contacts only or to Everyone, for example:
- Open Finder on your Mac
- Go to AirDrop in the sidebar of a Finder window, or pull down the Go menu and select AirDrop
- Click the “Let me discover:” text at the bottom of the window and choose “Contacts only” or “Everyone”
This will re-enable AirDrop and allow the Mac to be available for AirDrop requests.
You also need to make sure you have Bluetooth turned on on your Mac to be able to use AirDrop successfully.
