Peripheral devices often contain their own software. Here’s how to configure Logitech’s G Hub app on macOS and adjust common settings.
Third-party manufacturers often offer Mac-compatible mice, keyboards, headsets, and similar accessories that require a software application for proper configuration. For example, adjusting the report sensitivity and customizing the buttons on the Logitech G502 Hero mouse requires Logitech’s G Hub software.
What you’ll need to set up the Logitech G Hub
When working with Logitech’s G Hub accessories on Mac, start by downloading and installing the free G Hub software.

Among other benefits, the software allows you to create and assign different profiles to peripheral devices, a feature that comes in handy when the computer is being used by more than one person or for different functions. The G Hub software automatically detects compatible equipment connected to the Mac as well.
Configure G Hub on your Mac
Once detected, compatible accessories such as the G502 Hero mouse will be displayed Picture awill appear in the app.

Depending on the peripheral in use, different options will be available when you click the gear icon. Device settings for the G502 Hero mouse include enabling and specifying profiles in the device’s internal memory, setting device launch color effects, and restoring profiles to defaults as shown Figure B.

Clicking on the CPU-like icon allows you to enable and disable the device’s on-board memory. The use of on-board memory allows you to transfer the device to another system while maintaining the same settings – a convenient feature that saves time when working with different computers.
In the case of the popular G502 Hero mouse, you only need to click the mouse within the G Hub software to access some of the most important and frequently used features, such as those shown Figures C and d.

Depending on the accessory and model, you can use the G Hub software to customize various features and capabilities. The G502 Hero allows you to change the DPI sensitivity, which determines how fast and precisely the mouse pointer moves in proportion to the physical device itself. Using the task menu, you can program individual buttons to perform specific actions. Meanwhile, the Lightsync icon lets you adjust device colors and effects, as shown Picture E.

Don’t be alarmed if the menus or options are confusing. You can always return the settings to their defaults by clicking the radio button provided, but it only takes a few minutes to experiment with a few custom settings.
Here’s an example: If you want to assign the Zoom In and Zoom Out functions to the programmable G6 and G7 buttons on the upper left of the mouse, then from the Assignments menu, click Commands and go to Zoom In and Zoom Out. Simply drag and drop the appropriate action onto each corresponding button. These buttons, when pressed, will trigger these actions.
Why you should configure G Hub
While it may seem potentially irrelevant at first glance, the ability to adjust motion sensitivity, assign specific actions to specific buttons, and create macros and even assign common functions to individual buttons can be a game changer. Since saving steps and minimizing ergonomic movements once may not lead to huge rewards, saving and eliminating unnecessary steps adds up every day.
I depend on the efficiency I get and get frustrated when I have to work on a system that doesn’t have the same convenience. Take the time to understand the features of the various peripherals you work with every day. You may find some shortcuts that will save you time and make you a more productive worker over time.
