How to check if your Mac can run a game | Jobs Vox

[ad_1]

While most people prefer to use consoles or Windows PCs for gaming, some of us play games on our Macs. And one of the reasons gamers shy away from gaming on Mac is the limited library of games available on macOS. Another reason is that many Macs don’t have enough specs to comfortably run the latest AAA games.

However, there are games that your Mac can run. Here, we’ll show you how to streamline your search so you can easily find them based on your Mac’s specifications and operating system.

Check your Mac’s specifications

The first thing you should do before you start gaming on your Mac is to learn its strengths and limitations. And there’s no better way to do that than to check out its hardware specs yourself.

Hardware specifications (specifications) summarize the internal components of your computer, such as OS version, RAM, processor, total storage, etc. Now you can compare this information with the game requirements.

Here’s how to check your Mac’s specs:

  1. Hover over the menu bar at the top of your screen.
  2. Click on it Apple logo and select About this Mac.
  3. A small window will appear with an image of your Mac.

Here you can see your computer’s chip, memory, serial number and macOS version. You should also press More information To view other important information such as storage space and screen resolution in system settings. Now, Google the requirements of the game you want to run and compare them to see if you meet them.

As a rule, game requirements are divided into two categories: minimum and recommended. If your Mac meets the minimum requirements, then you can run the game, but not in the most fluid way. This means that you will have to throttle the graphics or speed.

You should make sure that your Mac meets the recommended requirements so that you can play the game as designed. But we have some tips to improve your Mac gaming experience.

Use the “Can I let it go?” site

Some websites can save you time checking your specs and Google Play requirements. Instead, these websites scan your computer’s hardware and check their list of games, then tell you which games your Mac can run.

One of the most popular tools for this is System Requirements Lab’s Can You Run It. Here they will install a Detection program on your computer that will check what you can run. However, it doesn’t seem to be a good fit for Macs, as it blacklists games that we know you can run on a Mac.

You can also use other websites, such as PC Game Benchmark, which allows you to select your specifications from a drop-down menu, or a website that has compiled a list of game requirements (such as Tech City).

Apply filters to your game download platform

Game download platforms and launchers are important for purchasing, downloading and managing games in this digital age. There are various digital distribution platforms and launchers, some of which can be downloaded on Mac. If you have a dedicated gaming Windows PC and want to check out some of the best of these apps, you should check out our list of the best gaming PCs.

By using filters on these launchers, you can narrow down the library to only the games that your Mac can run. We’ve organized some of the popular ones on Mac below and show you how you can apply filters or just find out which ones are compatible with your device.

Find compatible games in the App Store

Although it may not seem like it yet, the App Store is a good place to find games for your Mac. There are all kinds of games with a wide range of genres. If you own an Apple Silicon Mac, you can even download and play iPhone and iPad games.

Even though the App Store says your Mac can run an iPhone/iPad app, you may still experience crashes or freezes if it’s not yet optimized for Macs.

If you want to see if your Mac can run a game in the App Store, all you have to do is go to the game information segment. So follow these steps:

  1. Open it Application store By clicking the icon on the Dock.
  2. Search for the game you want using the search bar on the top left.
  3. Click on the name of the game to open its page.
  4. Scroll down for game summaries, screenshots, ratings, reviews and achievements, but stop information.
  5. Here you will find the game size, age rating, languages and compatible hardware/software.
  6. Click on it Drop down arrow on compatibility And see what OS and hardware can run the game.

Find compatible games on Epic

  1. Open it Epic Games Launcher and select view From the top menu near the search bar.
  2. Look right to find it filters menu and scroll down until you see a drop-down section called Platform.
  3. Select Mac OS All games from the filter and page will be for Mac.
  4. Now select an individual game and scroll down to see its system requirements.
  5. on the switch MAC OS tab and compare the requirement with your system requirement.

Check out the game’s forums and lists

A forum can be a great place to see what games your Mac can run. And the help of a whole community of fans can help you solve problems or maximize your gaming experience. Most major games have at least one Reddit page.

You can also use game lists like this one at Mac Gamer HQ, where they’ve compiled criteria based on what Mac you’re using. With this, you can select your Mac’s specifications and see what games it can run.

It might be better not to play elsewhere

While it’s entirely possible to have a good gaming experience on a Mac, software and hardware limitations don’t make it an ideal machine for gaming. However, you can still make your Mac game finding experience easier by using the tips suggested above.

Remember, if you run into any trouble or confusion, you can always consult other users on the forum to see what they think.
