How to back up your Mac with Time Machine in macOS Ventura [VIDEO] • iPhone in Canada blog | Jobs Vox

[ad_1]

A video recently posted on Apple’s official YouTube support channel describes how you can set up Time Machine on your Mac in macOS Ventura to automatically make regular backups.

Time Machine

In macOS Ventura, it’s pretty easy to enable Time Machine, add or change a backup drive, or change other settings. You can set your Mac to automatically create backups, or run them manually at any time.

Encrypt backup

Here’s how you can choose a backup drive for Time Machine and set encryption options on your Mac:

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > General, then click Time Machine.
  2. Click Add Backup Disk or click the Add button. The option you see depends on whether you already have one or more backup disks installed.
  3. Select a drive or backup location from the list.
  4. Time Machine cannot back up to a drive formatted for Windows. If you connect a drive formatted for Windows, it can be reformatted (permanently erase all data) to the Mac file system format and used as a backup drive.
  5. Click Install Disk.
  6. Choose the maximum space used for the backup and choose whether to encrypt the backups or not. Click Done after selecting the settings.
  7. If you are prompted to remove the drive, click Remove or select another volume.
  8. For encrypted backups, type the password for the backup drive.

If you previously used a Time Capsule or network drive for encrypted backups and want to enable encryption now, Time Machine must first delete the encrypted backup before starting the encrypted backup.

To use multiple backup drives, simply repeat the steps above for each drive.

If you store files on a backup disk, Time Machine will not back up those files, and the space available for Time Machine backups is reduced.
