‘An opportunity to share J&K’s achievements and showcase its rich cultural heritage’
Jammu– Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting here on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the G20 summit in the Union Territory next year.
Ahead of the G20 meeting, Sinha said extensive preparations will be made, adding that the India-chaired meetings are an opportunity to share the achievements of Jammu and Kashmir and showcase its rich cultural heritage.
Principal Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs R.K. Goyal, Special Director General (CID) RR Swain and Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Agriculture Atal Dulloo attended the meeting, where the LG urged students to participate. Educational institutions to make the meeting successful.
Apart from this, Sinha directed the Universities to organize seminars on G20 issues in the Universities.
Administrative Secretaries; Heads of departments, police and civic management organizations participated in the meeting in person and via video conference and shared their valuable feedback.
In connection with hosting the G-20 meeting in J&K in 2023, a five-member high-level committee was formed by the sub-council headed by LG in June this year for overall coordination.
The Chief Secretary of J&K Housing and Urban Development Department has been appointed as the chairman of the committee formed according to the information submitted by the Ministry of External Affairs on June 4.
The other four members include the Commissioner’s Secretary (Transport), Administrative Secretary (Tourism), Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol) and Administrative Secretary (Culture).
It will be the first major international summit to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of the erstwhile special status under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcation into two union territories in August 2019.
The G20 brings together 19 of the world’s leading economies and the European Union, whose members account for more than 80 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of global trade and 60 percent of the world’s population, according to the MEA.
The G20 members are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
