Dior takes a popular turn at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris

Dior designer Maria Grazia Cherry has set aside glittering jacquards and sequins – the standard fare at the Paris fashion show – and based on a variety of needle-and-thread carvings, her haute couture applies a wide, folk-flavored floral embroidery.

“It’s really a project that has the idea that art and craftsmen are on the same level,” Cheury told Reuters.

Models landed on the runway on Monday wearing long dresses with loose braids and patchwork opera coats, trim jackets and long sleeves. The dresses were served as a variety of blank canvases in soft, neutral colors – beige wool gabardine, cotton canvas and black velvet – for stylized floral embroidery that draped down the shoulders and around the skirt, rising from the hemline.

Ukrainian artist Olesya Trofimenko completes the show venue with artwork in the garden of the Rodin Museum, a huge photographic image of the landscape covered with embroidered flowers, outlining the shape of those who may be there. One of the labels owned by the French fashion house, LVMH, will keep the show open to the public, in keeping with a tradition it started in 2020 with the Judy Chicago Display.

Artwork and fashion carry an underlying theme – the tree of life, a universal symbol that is interpreted in different styles in different cultures.

Chiuri describes the idea as a holder of a mysterious quality that people can go back to “in difficult times”.

The patterns had a slightly retro flair. Chiuri considers local traditions and how floral patterns are interpreted around the world.

“I think there are some similarities between these garments. Very often they are embroidered, very often they are decorated with flowers. There really is a connection to life, ”he said.

Sigourney Weaver and Naomi Watts were among the packed front row guests.
