New Delhi [India]December 24 (ANI): Delhi Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena paid a surprise visit to Raen Baseras (night shelters) at ISBT and adjoining Hanuman Mandir on Friday evening.
The LG inquired about the facilities provided to them and took stock of the arrangements and amenities of these centres.
When he was informed that the night shelters in these areas have a total capacity of only 600 people while there are around 5,000 homeless people, he said he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“Besides, lack of toilets was the biggest cause of concern for shelter dwellers and people on roadsides, forcing them to resort to open spaces along the banks of the Yamuna,” the official said.
The Delhi LG appreciated the ample supply of blankets and blankets inside the shelters, as well as adequate cleanliness, and expressed deep concern over the inadequate capacity of the surrounding shelters and toilets.
We also noticed that the cleanliness of the neighborhood is being lost due to the open dumping of paper, plastic plates, and cups.
Expressing concern over open defecation in the region, he said that even though the remote areas of the country are achieving the goal of “Open Defecation Free India”, these citizens of the national capital are forced to defecate in the open.
Saxena further said that the MPD-2041 would make adequate provisions for housing the street homeless and providing them with basic amenities. (ANI)
