Chandni Chowk fire: LG panel investigates incident, suggests remedial steps | Latest News Delhi | Jobs Vox

Lieutenant Governor (LG) V.K. Saxena ordered the constitution of a committee comprising 11 senior government officials from the Delhi Municipal Corporation, police, fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force and electricity department. The committee should submit its report within 30 days, they added. The 11 members of the committee are the CEO of Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Zone), District Magistrate (Central Zone), Deputy Commissioner (MCD), Chief Engineer (MCD), Director (Fire Service) and Head of the Municipal Corporation. is. Representative of NDRF, BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, Member of DUSIB, Representative of Indraprastha Gas Ltd(IGL), General Secretary of All India Traders Association (CAIT).

On November 24, a fire broke out at Bhagirath Place in Chandni Chowk. The fire lasted for at least 15 hours and destroyed about 150 shops. At least four buildings were also destroyed in the fire. In addition, the fire adversely affected the structural safety of some buildings in the market, causing them to bend and crack. At least 80 fire extinguishers were used to extinguish the fire. The officials informed that the fire spread quickly because the shops were built close to each other and along a narrow road, and the vehicles of the fire department could not enter. Traders said that goods worth millions were damaged in the fire.

This is the second major fire incident in the Chandni Chowk area in recent months, after a major fire broke out at Kucha Mahajani Market in early September.
