Foxboro, Mass. – New England Patriots quarterback Mack Jones has been called out for making “dirty” plays in the past. And the second-year signal caller is being criticized for doing the same in New England’s 22-18 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bengals cornerback Eli Apple admitted how he felt Jones made a “dirty” play He scored with 6:17 left in regulation and the Patriots trailed 22-12.

“Of course I did (notice it). He lied,” Apple told NESN.com after the Cincinnati win. “I thought it was a dirty game. He’s done it before, I’ve seen it. “

Apple added: “Yes, they’re going home now.”

On the play in question, Jones tried to get away from Bengals safety Von Bell and threw the ball forward in hopes of avoiding a sack. Before the play was finally called an incomplete pass and intentional grounding on Jones, Bengals linebacker Jermaine Pratt took what he thought was a live ball and ran off the sideline. Patriots receiver Tyquan Thornton ran after Pratt but couldn’t reach him. Jones runs back.

With Pratt on the 25-yard line and Jones clearly unable to keep up with him, the Patriots quarterback landed a yard short of a hard-running Apple. A play by Jones led to a 25-yard touchdown run by Apple and ended up over Jones. Again, Jones was out of the game by that point.
