A man who quit his mechanical engineering job is now making thousands of dollars creating amazing sand art paintings.
James Sun was going through a difficult breakup in Toronto, Canada, when he began looking for a fresh start that could ease the tension.
“My heart was broken. I needed something to mend my heart, so I looked online, and when I saw the sand art it really calmed me down.
He searched online for people who made the type of art he envisioned, and spent $30,000 to travel to China and Japan to learn from the masters.
The 36-year-old said he “just kept practicing”, and because he’s a really big sports fan and passionate about pop culture, he started creating celebrity portraits of players like Ronaldo and Messi, and TV characters like Wednesday Adams. done.
“When I made the transition, everyone thought I was crazy,” he told SWNS News. “But, looking back, it was the best decision I ever made.”
James now has five employees and is also creating sponsored sand art logos and character portraits for companies such as BMW, FC Barcelona and Nickelodeon.
Five years later, his custom pieces now sell for $1,500, while his work for brand promotions has cost more than $4,500.

“I get to work with all these great brands, and I make more money than I ever did.”
It was in 2018 when he started posting on Tiktok. “That was when it really changed.”
He’s garnered over 3.4 million followers and now makes 10 to 15 pieces a month, spending about 10 hours a day on his craft.
He uses a small spoon to sprinkle colored sand into the container and packs it into the shape he needs using a custom needle. ,Watch the process in the video below…,
Pieces can take anywhere between a few hours, for simple logos, up to three days for more complex portraits.
“I do it one grain at a time,” said Mr. Sun. “I take breaks when I’m doing it, because I really need to concentrate, but I really enjoy it—it really relieves a lot of my stress.”

“Mentally, it has healed me. It mended my broken heart.
