For the first time in years, Apple is selling two independent monitors for the Mac, with a 27-inch Studio Display with camera and spatial audio support and the high-end Pro Display XDR starting at $4,999. According to a new report, Apple is working on “multiple new external monitors” that are expected to arrive alongside several Mac releases in 2023.
In the latest edition of his Power On, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman points out that Apple is working on upgrading the 32-inch 6K Pro Display XDR with Apple’s silicon that will ship with the new Mac Pro. The report says the update will add Apple’s silicon to bring the monitor up to date with the Studio Display, which launched with the A13 Bionic chip in March.
Gourmet isn’t releasing many new details about the new display, but we’re guessing the chip means it will have a webcam and speakers that are missing from the current model, as well as features like Center Stage and Hey Siri support. The new Pro display will also offer ProMotion, as found on the MacBook Pro.
As for other testimonials, Gourman has very little to say. He doesn’t specifically say if Apple is working on a new version of the Studio Display, but since he suggests there are at least two new Apple monitors, it’s logical to conclude that a new Studio Display is on the way. It works very well. The current model has received criticism for its high price, audio problems, and insufficient webcam.
In 2019, the Mac Pro and Pro XDR display were released together, but Gurman says that Apple is not obligated to release the new Pro Display XDR with the Mac Pro, since the new monitor is not as far away as the next Mac. pro. In a previous rumor, display analyst Ross Young claimed that the new display could arrive in the first quarter of 2023 with some high-end features including ProMotion and min-LED.
