Bharti Airtel and Tech Mahindra have announced a strategic partnership under which they are deployed ‘5G for an enterprise solution at Mahindra’s manufacturing facility in Chakan, making it India’s first 5G-enabled car manufacturing unit. The ‘5G for Business’ solution is said to have improved Chakan’s network connectivity, resulting in improved software flashing speeds, a critical operation for all vehicle dispatches. The company claims that high speeds and ultra-low latency now allow managers to undertake multiple software flashing sessions in parallel, resulting in reduced operation time. Furthermore, computerized vision-based inspection is now fully automated resulting in improved paint quality. Airtel says it is testing use cases and spectrum delivery with multiple partners and in several locations as part of its “5G for Business” offering.
The partnership is said to be in line with Tech Mahindra’s NKST.NOVTM framework, which aims to advance the ‘Human Centric Experience’ and focuses on investing in new technologies and solutions that enable digital transformation and meet evolving customer needs.
Transforming production
Speaking of partnership, Ajay Chitkara, Director and CEO, Airtel Business, said, “Our 5G enterprise solution will transform manufacturing operations in the country. We are thrilled to partner with Tech Mahindra and Mahindra Auto to demonstrate this transformation and have made the manufacturing facility in Chakan the first 5G-enabled automotive manufacturing facility in India. As the Industry 4.0 paradigm gains momentum, reliable data networks will prove to be a key differentiator in factory and manufacturing performance. This is just the beginning and I am sure we will showcase many more innovative use cases that will help redefine manufacturing in India.”
Manish Vyas, President, Communications, Media & Entertainment, and CEO, Network Services, Tech Mahindra, said, “The introduction of 5G has revolutionized the world of internet, ushering in a new era of connectivity, communication and collaboration. Our collaboration with Airtel aims to enhance the customer experience through digitally powered platforms and new age solutions. We are confident that this partnership will help unlock opportunities across industries to improve productivity, drive the intelligent digitization of network-driven enterprises and drive innovation.”
