The telecom operator has deployed a private 5G-based network at its Mahindra manufacturing facility in Chakan in partnership with an IT firm, the companies said in a joint statement on Thursday.
This implementation makes Mahindra’s facility India’s first car manufacturing unit with 5G technology.
“Our 5G enterprise solution will transform manufacturing operations in the country.” We are delighted to partner with Tech Auto to demonstrate this transformation and have made the manufacturing facility in Chakan India’s first 5G car manufacturing facility. This is just the beginning and I am sure we will introduce many more innovative use cases that will help redefine manufacturing in India,” said Business Director and CEO Ajay Chitkara.

The company claimed that its “5G for Business” solution significantly improved Chakan’s network connectivity, resulting in improved software flashing speeds, a critical operation for all vehicle shipments.
“Our collaboration with Airtel aims to enhance the customer experience through digitally enabled platforms and new age solutions. We are confident that this partnership will help unlock opportunities across industries to improve productivity, drive intelligent digitization of network-driven enterprises and drive innovation,” said Tech Mahindra President, Communications, Media & Entertainment and CEO, Network Services, Manish Vyas.
