Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday directed the Chief Secretary to recover Rs 97 crore from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for a “political” advertisement published in the “impersonation” of a government advertisement.
LG also announced that all advertisements after September 2016 will be transferred to the State Advertising Content Regulatory Commission.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and the LG are at loggerheads again over the order. The AAP said the LG had no authority to issue such an order.
Calling the LG’s order a “love letter”, AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj questioned the reasoning behind such a “frivolous” order (LG). He alleged that the BJP was behind the entire controversy, which tried to divert people’s attention from the Central government’s “failures”.
He said, “BJP-ruled state governments have spent Rs 22,000 crore on advertisements… When will BJP return Rs 22,000 crore in the budget. The LG is issuing illegal orders without any jurisdiction, his words have no value in the eyes of the law.” .”
