No one could have predicted that the Raiders would pull off an unbelievable late-game blunder by the Patriots under Bill Belichick before Sunday’s game — not a single person.
But in the last seconds Patsy-Raiders, a game with a chance to go into overtime, a game that seemed perfect for the moment turned into an absolute disaster. On the final play, running back Ramondre Stevenson threw a lateral pass to Jacoby Meyers, who then tried to throw the ball to quarterback Mack Jones, but instead found the Raiders’ Chandler Jones, who returned it for the game-winning pick-six. To add fuel to the fire, the Patriots QB was unable to tackle the Raiders defensive end.
That failed shot left former New England star Julian Edelman unhappy with the second-year quarterback’s efforts, as are many other disgruntled Patriots fans right now. The three-time Super Bowl champion told Inside the NFL on Paramount+ that the quarterback had to make a critical hit.
“The season is already under way,” the 36-year-old said. “You have to lose it.”
Additionally, Edelman shared a blunt response to Brandon Marshall’s claim that Jones doesn’t practice throwing. Edelman felt that if he couldn’t beat an opposing player for a game-winning score, he shouldn’t make the kind of remarks he does to the coaching staff when things go wrong.
“You know what, he [Mac Jones] Also not practicing tricks after the game and not taking the coaches and all those little sly faces and stuff,” Edelman said. “Like him, he doesn’t practice and do it. Why can’t you cope? it’s bad”.
According to NBC’s Steve Kornacki, the Patriots’ loss also lowered New England’s chances of making the playoffs to 22% from 42% entering Sunday’s game. With the holiday season in full swing, it’s safe to say Jones is now on Edelman’s list of villains.
